About Vital Pilates

Vital Pilates offers private and small group instruction in a personal, welcoming setting. Our instructors are comprehensively trained and provide encouragement and support as clients learn and grow towards improved body alignment, awareness, and quality of life.

Beginning with careful listening and understanding of your personal needs and goals, sessions are designed to strengthen and inspire both your body and your mind.

Mara Raskin is the principal instructor and owner of Vital Pilates, Inc.  Mara has secured two comprehensive Pilates Certifications which required intensive study, training, and hundreds of hours of practice. Mara is also a Certified YogaSlacker (http://yogaslackers.com/teachers/mara-raskin) and a Certified Hatha Yoga Teacher.

Mara trained extensively in New York City and achieved Certified Instructor status in early 2003 from Joseph Pilates’ protégé, Master Instructor Romana Kryzanowska. Mara secured a second comprehensive certification in 2008 from Stott Pilates, a contemporary, anatomically-based approach to Joseph Pilates’ original method incorporating modern exercise principles to promote spinal rehabilitation and overall performance enhancement. These certifications enable her to work with clients across a broad spectrum, from injury rehabilitation through competitive athletes. Mara can often be found instructing Hatha yoga outdoors, both on a Mat and on a slackline, applying her broad skills to ensure safe play, alignment, and lots of laughter and fun!  Mara has a passion for helping others to improve their physical awareness and quality of life through the application of intentional, controlled movement… on the ground and in the air!

Suzie Martin, Certified through The Pilates Body Center of Pennsylvania and Stott Pilates Trained, has been working with clients in the fitness industry for over 25 years. Suzie’s broad experience includes aquatics, senior fitness, personal training, children’s wellness, kick boxing, and most recently a Certification in Piloxing: a fusion of boxing and Pilates.  Suzie’s knowledge and experience shows through her enthusiasm, detailed cueing, and positive attitude leaving clients always asking for more.

Zach Plerhoples is a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher, Certified Yogaslacker  (Slackline Yoga teacher), and  Yin Yoga Teacher.   He is extremely physical and fun loving, teaching everything from Arm Balancing and Foundational Acrobatic Skills to the more passive and restorative end of the physical spectrum with the practice of Yin Yoga and Myofasicial release.  Zach’s passion lies in teaching the practices of wellness to assist individuals towards an integrated, healthy and holistic lifestyle.

Melissa Heisey has been practicing yoga, pilates and running for several years.  She has completed multiple half marathons and marathons.  It was while training for a marathon that she discovered the benefits of MELT.  Melissa is a true believer that there are many interconnected paths to achieving wellness. She is a MELT Method practitioner and trained with the founder and creator of the MELT Method, Sue Hitzmann. She is passionate about the value of the MELT Method and has seen its benefits in her own body.

Because we can’t “see” ourselves, it is difficult to change habitual movement patterns, especially if we continue to work out with the same familiar types of exercises and equipment.  Only with proper training can you begin to change patterns of movement, which have created the body you currently have.   Our personal instruction may be the fastest way to correct your “bad habits.”
